The Enugu State Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old man, identified as Raymond Wonna, over alleged involvement in cross-border human trafficking.

Two teenage girls, reportedly his victims, were rescued in the process.

Police spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, in a statement on Thursday, said the victims — 18-year-old Miracle Ogar and 16-year-old Angela Kingsley, both from Cross River State — were intercepted on July 30, 2025, while being transported to Ghana under the guise of job opportunities.

“They were intercepted at about 2 p.m. by operatives of the Command’s crack tactical squad during a routine patrol along the Enugu–Onitsha Expressway,” Ndukwe explained.

According to him, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect had lured the girls from Ogoja, Cross River State, claiming he was taking them to work in a restaurant owned by his “baby mama” in Ghana — without the knowledge or consent of their parents.

“Further findings indicate that the suspect also attempted to rape the victims while lodging them in a hotel, where they were kept pending departure,” Ndukwe alleged.

The police confirmed that the victims have been reunited with their families, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the trafficking syndicate.

Enugu State Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, commended the operatives for their quick response and urged the public to be alert to suspicious movements.

“The Command remains unwavering in its commitment to tackling human trafficking and other violent crimes,” Giwa said. “We urge citizens to report any suspicious activities promptly.”
