The Nasarawa State Police Command has apprehended a notorious kidnap kingpin, Mohammed Bammi, widely known as Zomo, alongside five other suspected members of a kidnapping ring.

State Police Command Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Sunday, August 24, 2025.

He explained that operatives from the Doma Division captured Bammi during a clearance operation at Doka Forest.

Nansel recalled that the suspect had narrowly evaded capture last month when some members of his gang were arrested, but luck eventually ran out after he was spotted by vigilant officers.

“In a desperate attempt to escape, he pulled a knife to attack our men but was swiftly overpowered and arrested,” the PPRO stated.

During interrogation, Bammi led detectives to the group’s hideout in Alagye village, Doma Local Government Area, where security personnel recovered dangerous exhibits.

Among the items retrieved were a pump-action rifle, a locally made AK-47 rifle with magazine, two live rounds of ammunition, five cartridges, a knife, a rope, two Tecno phones, and a pair of NSCDC uniforms.

In a separate raid, undercover officers attached to Awe Area Command stormed Gidan Taku village in Wuse Chiefdom, Awe LGA, and apprehended five other suspected kidnappers.

The suspects were identified as Michael Ato, Richard Ato, Alom Bernard, Hangior Ato, and Jacob Hunde, also known as Okocha.

“Investigations revealed that the syndicate masterminded the kidnapping of one Blessing John of Gidan Makaranta village, Wuse. Two locally fabricated AK-47 rifles and one live round of ammunition were recovered from them,” Nansel disclosed.

Further investigations revealed that the gang had previously abducted the victim’s husband, John Ada Kuje, in April this year and released him only after a ransom was paid.

Commending the officers for their gallantry and professionalism, the Commissioner of Police, CP Shettima Jauro Mohammed, assured residents of Nasarawa that the command will maintain its momentum until kidnappers and armed robbers are completely flushed out of the state.

“All arrested suspects have been transferred to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit for further investigation and prosecution,” he added.
