The Delta State Police Command has apprehended four suspected cult members and recovered arms, ammunition, and other items during a recent operation.
Spokesman for the command, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed the development to journalists on Monday in Warri.
According to Edafe, the arrests were made on Wednesday by operatives of the CP-Special Assignment Team, headed by ASP Julius Robinson.
The operation took place in the Mosogar community, located in Ethiope West Local Government Area.
“Acting on credible intelligence on the activities of cultists within Mosogar and its environs, CP-SAT stormed the residence of two of the suspects,” he said.
He explained that a search warrant was executed at the suspects’ residences, where various weapons and items were uncovered.
“During the preliminary investigation, a search warrant was executed in their premises.
“While searching, a black bag containing a fabricated Baretta pistol, loaded with two rounds of live ammunition and two locally-made guns, was recovered.
“Other exhibits recovered were: eight rounds of live cartridges, multiple phones, laptop and some fetish substances,” Edafe stated.
The police spokesperson added that further investigative efforts led to the arrest of two more individuals in Mosogar, who are believed to be affiliated with the Aiye confraternity.
He confirmed that all suspects are currently in police custody as investigations continue.
