Police nab 23-year-old Ogun man over alleged fake bank transfer

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 23-year-old man, identified as Adeshola Muyiwa, over alleged use of fake bank transfer alerts to defraud traders and residents in Agbado and surrounding communities in Ogun State.

The suspect was apprehended by operatives of the Agbado Division, acting under the supervision of the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Adesanya Oyekanmi, following a reported incident involving a food vendor.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the arrest took place on Saturday, May 17, 2026, after a complaint was filed by a food seller at Owolanwa Junction in Agbado.

He explained that the suspect had earlier purchased food items valued at N2,600 and allegedly attempted to complete payment by presenting a fake bank transfer notification.

“The arrest was effected at about 11:45am following a report that the suspect fraudulently obtained food items and presented a fake transfer notification as proof of payment,” the police spokesperson stated.

Babaseyi added that prompt action by detectives of the Agbado Division led to the suspect’s swift arrest shortly after the report was made.

Preliminary findings by the Command indicated that the suspect may have been carrying out a recurring pattern of fake or scheduled transfer scams within Agbado and neighbouring communities, targeting unsuspecting traders and members of the public.

“During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to engaging in the fraudulent activities over a period of time, with proceeds allegedly amounting to about N10 million,” Babaseyi added.

“The Command remains committed to sustaining the fight against financial and cyber-enabled crimes across Ogun State,” the CP said.

Ojajuni also urged traders, business owners, and residents to always verify payments through their banking applications or account statements before releasing goods or services.

He further encouraged members of the public to stay alert and promptly report any suspicious behaviour or criminal activity to security agencies.
