The Borno State Police Command has apprehended 210 individuals and recovered a cache of hard drugs and weapons during a week-long operation conducted between June 11 and 18.
State Commissioner of Police Naziru AbdulMajid, disclosed this on Friday while briefing the media at the Command Headquarters in Maiduguri.
AbdulMajid explained that the crackdown was carried out through a series of coordinated efforts, including raids, surveillance, stop-and-search initiatives, and enforcement activities specifically aimed at curbing handset snatching, cult-related violence, drug abuse, and youth gangsterism.
Providing further details, the CP stated that out of the 210 suspects arrested, 86 have already been convicted, while 124 are still undergoing investigation.
Among the items seized were 58 sachets of tramadol, 175 exzol tablets, 130 D5 tablets, and 395 wraps along with one kilogram of dried leaves believed to be Indian hemp.
Other recovered exhibits included 28 ermo tablets, 10 bottles of drug syrup, 19 shisha pots and pipes, nine knives, and two uniquely crafted antelope horns.
He attributed the success of the operations to the Rapid Response Squad’s Social Vices Unit, which comprises a collaborative team of police personnel and members of other security agencies.
AbdulMajid commended the commitment and courage of the officers involved, and expressed gratitude to the Borno State Government for bolstering the RRS with renewed support and resources.
He also extended appreciation to Hauwa Abubakar, the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, for her role in ensuring timely prosecution of offenders.
He urged citizens to actively assist law enforcement agencies by promptly reporting suspicious activities and providing accurate information to aid ongoing investigations.
“Let me be clear, the Police Command in Borno under my watch will not tolerate criminal elements or their unlawful activities,” he said.
The CP also issued a stern warning to those involved in illegal acts, urging them to abandon such behavior or prepare to face legal consequences.
