Police nab 14 suspects in Kaduna crime crackdown

The Kaduna State Police Command has arrested ten suspected armed robbers and four illegal firearms manufacturers in a series of coordinated operations across the state.

According to Command Spokesman DSP Mansir Hassan, the operations led to the recovery of eight locally-made guns, 16 cartridges, three stolen vehicles, and one motorcycle through credible intelligence and swift tactical responses.

Among the key arrests was Nura Auwal, who allegedly stabbed and robbed a commercial motorcycle operator on June 30. The suspect reportedly posed as a passenger traveling from Sabon Tasha to Unguwan Gwari before attacking the rider and fleeing with the motorcycle, which was later recovered by the Kawo Division’s surveillance team.

Police also apprehended two suspects – Sanusi Bala from Zamfara and Nura Bala from Zaria – along Kano Road on June 19 for attempting to rob a tricycle operator. Their confessions led to the recovery of three stolen vehicles: a dark blue Golf III Wagon (ABC-152-AL), a green Golf III Wagon (ABJ-900-RE), and an unregistered dark blue Golf III Wagon. Authorities are working to apprehend other syndicate members including their alleged buyer, Jamilu Zurmi of Zamfara.

In another breakthrough on July 4, five suspected armed robbers were arrested following a violent home invasion in Ungwan Sanusi where a Toyota Corolla was stolen. Investigations revealed the vehicle was destined for Maradi, Niger Republic to be delivered to a suspected stolen vehicle dealer, Alhaji Garba Yaro, who remains at large.

Anti-kidnapping operatives on July 7 arrested three suspects in Nasarawan Doya Village, Makarfi LGA, recovering two locally-made guns and two live cartridges. The suspects are linked to the kidnapping of a local resident’s wife.

In a major operation on July 11, police raided an illegal arms factory in Giroji, Makarfi LGA, arresting four individuals and recovering three completed rifles, three incomplete rifle frames, fourteen cartridges, five rounds of live ammunition, and various metal fabrication tools including a bench vice and welding machines.

Commissioner of Police Rabiu Muhammad praised officers’ dedication and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks. He urged residents to continue supporting law enforcement with timely information. All suspects remain in custody as investigations continue.
