The Kano State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of 11 young men linked to a violent gang confrontation that erupted on Tuesday night in parts of Medile and Sheka.
The clash, which reportedly escalated into a knife fight, also led to incidents of burglary and theft, heightening concerns about gang-related violence in the area.
In a press release issued on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer for the State Police Command, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, disclosed that the suspects were apprehended following swift intervention by the police.
Parts of the statement read, “The Kano State Police Command has arrested 11 suspects in connection with a thuggery incident that occurred on 26th May 2025, at about 10:00pm in Medile Quarters. The suspects, armed with dangerous weapons, invaded the area, attacked and inflicted injuries on innocent citizens, and robbed them of their belongings.”
Those arrested include: Aliyu Ibrahim (21), Abubakar Ya’u (18), Ibrahim Kaulayi (19), Ibrahim Murtala a.k.a Mai Rakuma (18), Abba Musa a.k.a Giza Gizo (27), Muhammad Dawud a.k.a Dan Besse (19), Abdullahi Ibrahim a.k.a Tsoho Me Nama (38), Jibril Abubakar a.k.a Abasu Kala (22), Salim Musa (20), Zaharaddin Ismail a.k.a Gwan Gwan (20), and Abubakar Hassan a.k.a Meguda Dan Ta (44).
The statement further quoted the PPRO as saying, “The suspects are Aliyu Ibrahim ‘m’ 21 years old, Abubakar Ya’u ‘m’ 18yrs, Ibrahim Kaulayi ‘m’ 19yrs, Ibrahim Murtala a.k.a Mai Rakuma ‘m’ 18yrs, Abba Musa a.k.a Giza Gizo ‘m’ 27yrs, Muhammad Dawud a.k.a Dan Besse ‘m’ 19yrs, Abdullahi Ibrahim a.k.a Tsoho Me Nama ‘m’ 38yrs, Jibril Abubakar a.k.a Abasu Kala ‘m’ 22yrs, Salim Musa ‘m’ 20yrs, Zaharaddin Ismail a.k.a Gwan Gwan ‘m’ 20yrs, Abubakar Hassan a.k.a Meguda Dan Ta ‘m’ 44yrs.”
The police command expressed gratitude to residents of the state for their support and encouraged continued collaboration to ensure public safety.
“The command said it appreciates the cooperation of the people of Kano, and urges them to give more to help secure their lives and properties.”
