The Oyo State Police Command has arrested 10 suspected dealers in human parts and recovered suspected human remains along with charms from their hideouts.
The Punch reported that the command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, disclosed this in a statement issued to journalists in Ibadan on Saturday.
According to Ayanlade, the arrests followed months of intelligence gathering and discreet surveillance conducted by operatives attached to the command’s monitoring unit.
He said the suspects were apprehended at separate hideouts in Iseyin and Saki areas of the state.
Following the arrests, police operatives searched the locations and recovered several items suspected to be human body parts.
“Following their arrest, operatives conducted searches of the suspects’ hideouts, during which several suspected human parts were recovered.
“The exhibits include one suspected human heart, human flesh, pieces of human skull and assorted charms,” he said.
Ayanlade stated that the recovered exhibits had been secured and would undergo forensic examination as investigations continued.
He added that the suspects were assisting investigators in determining the source, procurement and intended purpose of the recovered items.
The police spokesman further disclosed that efforts were ongoing to track down and apprehend other alleged members of the syndicate.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Abimbola Olugbenga, commended the operatives for their intelligence-driven operation and professional conduct.
Ayanlade quoted the commissioner as assuring residents that the command remained committed to tackling criminal activities and protecting human life.
The statement was issued by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
