The Nasarawa State Police Command has recovered an AK-47 rifle, two magazines, live ammunition, and an unregistered motorcycle during a stop-and-search exercise carried out on the Giza-Kadarko road in Keana Local Government Area.
The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Ramhan Nansel, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Sunday, June 8, 2025.
According to the statement, the operation followed actionable intelligence about the movement of a suspected arms trafficker.
Acting swiftly, the Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, directed officers from the Giza Division to mount surveillance and intercept the suspect.
“At about 4:00 p.m. on June 7, 2025, the police received credible information that a suspect transporting firearms would be moving along the Giza-Kadarko axis,” Nansel stated. “In response, our operatives set up a coordinated stop-and-search operation in the area.”
During the operation, officers attempted to stop a man riding an unregistered Bajaj motorcycle. However, the suspect reportedly abandoned the motorcycle and fled into the surrounding bush upon being flagged down for questioning.
“The operatives searched the motorcycle and found an AK-47 rifle with breach number 0413, two magazines, several rounds of 7.62x39mm live ammunition, and the motorcycle itself,” Nansel disclosed.
He added that the recovery points to “a possible link to criminal activity” and assured that a manhunt has been launched to apprehend the fleeing suspect and determine the source and intended destination of the arms.
“The Command remains committed to protecting lives and property across the state, and we call on the public to provide any useful information that may assist in the ongoing investigation,” he said.
The Nasarawa State Police Command also urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements in their communities.
