Police hunt Yobe woman over allaged assault on husband

The Yobe State Police Command has announced that efforts are ongoing to apprehend an 18-year-old housewife, Khadija Jamilu, who allegedly inflicted serious injuries on her 25-year-old husband’s genitals with a knife in Potiskum Local Government Area.

The command stated that the attack occurred on Friday following a domestic dispute between the couple.

Speaking on Sunday in Damaturu, the command’s spokesperson, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, said the Potiskum Divisional Police Headquarters received a distress call at 3:00 p.m., reporting that the incident had taken place earlier at 1:00 a.m. in the community.

Abdulkarim explained that police officers promptly responded to the scene and rushed the victim to the State Specialist Hospital, Potiskum, for urgent medical care.

He added that the victim was later referred to the Federal Medical Centre, Azare, in Bauchi State, where he is receiving treatment for his injuries.

“Khadija fled immediately after the attack and continues to remain at large since last Friday,” Abdulkarim said, noting that efforts to arrest her are ongoing while the investigation continues.

Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ado, condemned the act, urging families to avoid resolving marital disputes through violence and sexual assault.

He said, “Marriages should be built on mutual respect, understanding, patience and tolerance, and not become avenues for violence or abuse among spouses.” Ado further advised couples to seek counselling and embrace peaceful dialogue by involving parents, religious leaders, or trusted mediators when conflicts arise.
