Taraba Governor, Agbu Kefas

Governor Kefas Agbu of Taraba State has disclosed new findings about the death of his sister, Atsi Kefas, clarifying that she was fatally shot by a police escort rather than bandits as initially believed.

The governor made the revelation during a press briefing in Jalingo, providing shocking details about the 2024 incident.

“Life is very precious to me. You can’t just end someone’s life and think God will be happy with you,” Governor Kefas stated emotionally. “My younger sister was shot and killed by a police escort who was inside the same bus with her.”

The tragic incident occurred while Atsi was traveling with their mother from Jalingo to Abuja. Contrary to early reports suggesting a bandit attack along the Wukari-Chinkai Road, investigations revealed the police officer fired at close range.

“Investigation revealed that my sister Atsi was shot at close range. The policeman is still under investigation so that justice should prevail,” the governor confirmed. He added that medical examination during surgery found firearm pellets in his sister’s body before she succumbed to her injuries.

During the press conference, Governor Kefas also addressed the recent Karim-Lamido Local Government Area violence that claimed over 50 lives. He observed a minute of silence for both his sister and the massacre victims while condemning the escalating insecurity in the state.

The governor announced plans to establish a commission of inquiry to investigate the Karim-Lamido crisis and develop sustainable peace solutions. He urged residents to embrace unity, stating that violence only hinders development in the state.

As of press time, the Taraba State Police Command had not responded to the governor’s allegations regarding his sister’s death. The case continues to undergo investigation as the governor seeks justice for his late sibling.
