Police dismiss viral claim of release of abducted Oyo pupils, teachers

The Oyo State Police Command has refuted reports circulating on social media that pupils and teachers abducted from Ahoro Esiele and Yawota communities in Orire Local Government Area have been released by their captors.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, described the claim as false and urged residents to disregard it.

“The Command states unequivocally that the claim is false, misleading, and entirely unsubstantiated. As of the time of this release, there has been no such development, and members of the public are advised to disregard the report in its entirety,” Olayinka said.

The police spokesperson noted that efforts to rescue the victims remain ongoing, assuring families and residents that security agencies are intensifying operations to secure their release.

“Security operatives are working tirelessly, deploying all available human and operational resources to ensure the safe rescue of the abducted pupils and teachers, their unharmed reunification with their families, and the apprehension and prosecution of all those responsible for the heinous act,” he added.

The Command also warned against the spread of unverified information, saying such reports could create panic, disrupt security operations, and threaten public order.

According to Olayinka, the dissemination of false reports and sensational narratives could heighten public anxiety and undermine ongoing efforts by security agencies.

He urged residents to rely only on information released through official channels of the Nigeria Police Force and other authorized government institutions.
