Oyo SUBEB: Job seeker arrested for alleged forgery

The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the death of a 14-year-old boy, Kehinde Alade, during a traffic enforcement operation in Ibadan involving its officers and the Oyo State Traffic Management Authority (OYTMA). The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, May 20, 2025, along Airport Roundabout, Alakia-Adelubi/Airport Road, in Egbeda Local Government Area.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Adewale Osifeso, the police disclosed that the tragedy unfolded when officers attempted to stop a black Honda Accord with Lagos registration number FST 639 JJ, reportedly driven by the victim’s father, Mr. Odunayo Alade.

According to the police, the driver allegedly violated traffic regulations by driving against traffic (one-way). When flagged down by the enforcement team, he was said to have attempted to evade arrest by accelerating toward the officers, crashing into two OYTMA vehicles and a police patrol truck in the process.

“The driver refused to obey lawful directives and instead drove recklessly, endangering the lives of officers and road users,” the statement noted. “Due to the dangerous nature of his actions, barricades were placed, but he still broke through and continued fleeing.”

Police say they suspected a possible abduction or other criminal act due to the erratic behavior, prompting a chase. In an effort to stop the vehicle, a police corporal allegedly fired a shot aimed at the tyres. Tragically, the bullet missed and struck the teenager, Kehinde Alade, who was seated behind the driver.

He was rushed to the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, but was confirmed dead on arrival. His body has since been taken to the Adeoyo State Hospital mortuary for autopsy and further examination.

In response to the incident, Commissioner of Police, CP Johnson Adenola, swiftly deployed tactical and intelligence units to maintain calm and secure the area. The officer who fired the shot has been detained and is cooperating with investigators.

“The Commissioner of Police has directed a full-scale investigation, which will be handled by the Deputy Commissioner in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department,” Osifeso stated. “The process will be transparent, and findings will be shared with the public.”

The Command extended condolences to the family of the deceased, promising that justice would be pursued.

“Our hearts go out to the family of Kehinde Alade. This is a deeply regrettable incident, and we assure the public that accountability will not be compromised,” the statement read.

The police encouraged residents to remain calm and contact the Command’s emergency numbers for any inquiries or reports, reiterating their commitment to professionalism and public safety.
