The Imo State Police Command has reassured residents of their safety amid a sit-at-home threat issued by the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network.
Authorities say the threat is unfounded and have urged citizens to go about their normal activities without fear.
In a statement released on Friday, May 30, 2025, the Commissioner of Police in Imo State, CP Aboki Danjuma, emphasized that the Police, in collaboration with other security agencies, have activated comprehensive strategies to prevent any breach of peace across the state.
“Residents should ignore the sit-at-home directive from these outlawed groups,” CP Danjuma stated. “We have mobilized all necessary resources to ensure that there is no disruption of peace and order.”
According to the release, top security officials including Brigadier General M.I. Abbas of the 34 Artillery Brigade Obinze, DSS Director DD ZM Baba, Air Commodore DE Bello of the 211 Quick Response Group, as well as representatives from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Immigration Service, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and the Fire Service, have all joined efforts with the Police to implement proactive security operations.
Joint operatives have been strategically stationed across all 27 Local Government Areas of Imo State, conducting show-of-force exercises and confidence-building patrols designed to deter potential lawbreakers and reassure the public of their safety.
In a strong message to those who might attempt to enforce the illegal sit-at-home order, CP Danjuma warned: “Anyone caught trying to disturb public peace will be dealt with according to the laws of the land.”
He urged the people of Imo to remain security conscious and to report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or contact the command via its emergency lines: 08034773600 or 08148024755.
DSP Okoye Henry, the Police Public Relations Officer for Imo State Command, confirmed the deployment and reiterated the commitment of security agencies to maintaining law and order.
“The safety of our communities is paramount, and we are working round the clock to protect lives and property,” he said.
Residents are encouraged to continue their daily routines without panic, as security operatives remain on high alert to counter any threats.
