Police arrest two suspected armed robbers, recover firearm in Delta

Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad in Delta State have apprehended two suspected armed robbers and cultists during a stop-and-search operation along the Asaba-Benin Expressway.

Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued to journalists in Warri. The suspects were identified as Blessing Ngbajime, 49, and Okpako Oghenovo, 27.

According to CP Abaniwonda, the arrest took place on May 15, 2025, at about 6:30 a.m. after officers flagged down a Jetta vehicle with registration number ASB 18 BH carrying the two men.

“Upon search of the vehicle and the occupants, one fabricated Beretta pistol was recovered from Okpako Oghenovo,” the police commissioner stated.

He further disclosed that “investigation is in progress, and the apprehended suspects are undergoing profiling and interrogation.”

No additional weapons or incriminating items were found during the search. The police have yet to confirm whether the suspects are linked to any recent robberies or cult-related activities in the state.
