The Anambra State Police Command has arrested three suspected armed robbers believed to be members of a gang notorious for robbing residents of vehicles and valuables at gunpoint.

Spokesperson for the Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed the arrests in a statement on Monday.

He revealed that the suspects were apprehended following intelligence obtained from a suspect already in police custody.

According to Ikenga, the operation was executed by officers of the Rapid Response Squad in Awkuzu during the early hours of Saturday, May 30, 2025.

The suspects—identified as Monday Onoja, Sanusi Muhammed, and Kenneth Nwokpu—are all males between the ages of 27 and 32.

“Acting on credible information provided by a detained suspect, our operatives moved swiftly to Agukwu-Nri in Anaocha Local Government Area, where they successfully arrested three members of a notorious robbery gang,” Ikenga stated.

During the raid, the police recovered an automatic pump action gun and several suspected stolen items, including a white Mercedes Benz C300 4MATIC with registration number KWC 140, an ash-coloured Lexus 350 with registration number 669 CY, and two high-end mobile phones.

“This breakthrough is part of our ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal syndicates operating in the state. We have expanded our investigation to track down other members of the gang who are currently on the run,” he added.

SP Ikenga reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property in Anambra State. “This development highlights the command’s proactive approach in disrupting criminal activities and maintaining public order,” he said.

The suspects are currently in custody and will be charged in court after the conclusion of investigations.
