The Anambra State Police Command has arrested three men for allegedly defiling three minors in separate incidents across Eziowelle, Oba, and Ogidi communities.
Police spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the arrests in a statement issued on Sunday, noting that the suspects are currently in custody and will be charged in court on Wednesday, September 3, 2025.
According to the statement, one of the suspects, 28-year-old Chidubem Udem, was arrested on August 13 by operatives in Eziowelle after allegedly defiling a five-year-old girl at her grandmother’s house. Medical reports later confirmed the case.
Another suspect, identified as 30-year-old Kalu Ilo, was apprehended on August 28 in Ogidi for allegedly raping his neighbour’s 13-year-old daughter, who is said to be mentally challenged.
Similarly, operatives from the Oba Division arrested one Ihechiluru Okorie on August 19 for allegedly forcing himself on a 14-year-old girl who had gone to his barbing salon. Police said the suspect confessed to the act during interrogation.
Ikenga explained that investigators from the State Criminal Investigation Department’s Gender Unit have already secured evidence to aid prosecution.
“The Anambra State Police Operatives of the State CID Gender Unit have secured evidence for the prosecution of three arrested suspects in separate incidents of defilement,” he said.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, condemned the incidents and assured the public of diligent prosecution.
“These acts are unacceptable. We will ensure that justice is served and that the rights of these children are protected,” he stated.
He also called on parents, guardians, and community leaders to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspected cases of sexual or gender-based violence.
“The Command remains committed to safeguarding children and vulnerable persons in Anambra State,” the CP added.
