Police arrest suspected Ogun ritualists over 16-year-old boy’s murder

Two men have been taken into custody by the Ogun State Police Command over the suspected murder of 16-year-old Wahab Lawal, and are now being prepared for prosecution.

The development was confirmed in a statement issued in Abeokuta on Saturday by the State Command’s Spokesperson, Omolola Odutola.

According to Odutola, Wahab had been living with his grandmother when he was declared missing by his father, Mr. Olumide Lawal.

“Tragically, on July 23rd, his lifeless and decomposed body was discovered along the Old Express Road, Igbile-Ijebu.

“A preliminary examination revealed that the head, both wrists, heart and genitals had been gruesomely removed, suggesting ritualistic motives.

“Acting swiftly on credible intelligence, officers from Omu-Ijebu Division apprehended some suspects in connection with the murder,” she said.

Following the arrest, one of the suspects is said to have made a voluntary confession, which was captured on video, according to Odutola.

Due to the condition of the remains, the boy has already been laid to rest in line with Islamic traditions.

Odutola further explained that the case file and collected evidence are being transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, for continued, in-depth investigation.

She also revealed that law enforcement officers are still working to locate and arrest other suspects who are currently on the run.

Condemning the brutal killing, the police vowed to ensure accountability.

“The command urges the citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police formation,” she said.
