Police arrest suspect, recover stolen SUV in Abia

The Abia State Police Command says it has arrested a suspect, Emeka Edwin Chukwuma, from Umuchu in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State, in connection with a stolen vehicle traced to the state.

Police spokesperson, DSP Maureen Chinaka, who confirmed the development in a statement on Thursday on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Isa Danladi, said operatives of the command’s Scorpion Squad recovered a Toyota Highlander SUV with registration number BBR667RM, suspected to have been stolen in Akwa Ibom State in 2022.

“In furtherance of investigations into a stolen vehicle reported in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, in 2022, and suspected to have been moved to Abia State, operatives of the Scorpion Squad, leveraging credible intelligence, recovered a Toyota Highlander SUV and apprehended one Emeka Edwin Chukwuma in relation to the case,” Chinaka said.

According to the police, the complainant has been contacted to verify ownership of the vehicle.

“The complainant has been contacted to aid in ascertaining the originality and ownership of the recovered vehicle. Meanwhile, further investigations are ongoing,” the spokesperson added.

The command assured residents that it remains committed to tackling crime through intelligence-led policing and decisive operations.
