Police arrest suspect in Anambra lawmaker’s murder

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a suspected notorious gang leader in connection with the abduction and killing of a member of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Azuka Justice.

Justice was kidnapped and later murdered on December 24, 2024, in a crime that sparked outrage across the state.

Confirming the arrest in a statement on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, said operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, apprehended a 26-year-old suspect, identified as Ugochukwu Uzor.

According to Tochukwu, the suspect was arrested during a coordinated security operation carried out on December 8 in Iyowa Odekpe, Ogbaru Local Government Area.

“The operatives engaged the suspect in a gun duel before successfully overpowering and arresting him,” Tochukwu said.

Items recovered from the suspect included a locally manufactured Beretta pistol and eleven rounds of live ammunition.

The police spokesperson described Uzor as the leader of multiple violent criminal gangs operating within Anambra State and neighbouring areas.

He noted that the suspect had conspicuous tattoos inscribed with the words “No Forgiveness” and “No Mercy,” which investigators said further pointed to his criminal inclinations.
