Police arrest four over alleged truck hijacking in Oyo

The Oyo State Police Command has arrested four suspected members of a syndicate allegedly involved in the hijacking and diversion of trucks in Oyo State and neighbouring states.

The suspects were arrested by operatives of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit following intelligence that the group planned to carry out a truck hijacking operation on August 24, 2026.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, directed the VCRU to conduct an intelligence-led stop-and-search operation along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The operation led to the interception of a white Sino Howo truck and the arrest of two suspects, identified as Ojedokun Olakunle Isaac, a motor boy attached to the truck driver, and his alleged accomplice, Ajuwon Ismail.

The police said the truck’s rear body had already been removed and the vehicle was being driven towards the Ogbomoso-Ilorin axis, allegedly for delivery to a criminal receiver in Kwara State.

The statement quoted Ojedokun as confessing to masterminding the alleged hijacking of the truck from his employer along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The police said information obtained during interrogation led to the arrest of two other suspected members of the syndicate, identified as Adekunle Sunday and Rasheed Music.

According to the Command, Sunday allegedly served as the syndicate’s designated driver, taking control of hijacked trucks and driving them to intended receivers.

It added that Music allegedly specialised in removing vehicle trackers and other electronic devices used to monitor and locate the trucks.

The Command said the syndicate allegedly hijacked the truck at about 11pm on August 24 and diverted it towards Ogbomoso and Ilorin before the police intervention disrupted the operation.

The police said efforts were ongoing to recover the removed rear body of the truck and arrest other members of the group who remain at large.

The Commissioner of Police commended members of the public whose information assisted the police in disrupting the alleged criminal operation.

Olugbenga said the Command would continue to rely on intelligence-led policing to dismantle criminal networks operating in Oyo State.

He urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to help improve safety across the state.
