The Delta State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of four officers filmed in a viral video handling bundles of cash inside a patrol vehicle in Asaba.

The video, which circulated widely on social media, showed the officers counting the money in a van marked Area Command Asaba.

The clip sparked public outrage, with many Nigerians alleging the cash could be linked to extortion.

Police Public Relations Officer for the Command, Bright Edafe, said on Tuesday that the officers were swiftly identified and summoned before the Commissioner of Police.

“The policemen in the embarrassing video have been identified and arrested. They appeared before the CP today,” Edafe announced in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

According to him, disciplinary measures have already commenced. Two senior officers involved have been issued official queries, while the other two—both inspectors—have been detained pending an orderly room trial.

“The four personnel, two of them senior officers, have been queried, while the two inspectors are in custody and awaiting orderly room trial,” he added.

The police spokesperson assured that the outcome of the internal disciplinary process would determine the sanctions against the officers.

Edafe emphasized that the Command would not tolerate misconduct that could tarnish the image of the Force.

“We acted immediately the video came to our notice, and the necessary actions are ongoing to ensure discipline,” he stressed.
