Police arrest 98 suspects in Kano crime crackdown

The Kano State Police Command has arrested 98 suspects linked to various criminal activities across the state, Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori announced during a press briefing at the Bompai Police Headquarters.

CP Bakori revealed that the suspects were apprehended in connection with 21 major criminal cases. Breaking down the arrests, he stated: “Within 24 days, a total of ninety-eight (98) suspects have been arrested, involved in twenty-one (21) major cases of armed robbery, thuggery (Daba), drug dealings, theft, fraud, etc. Four (04) suspected kidnappers, Twenty-one (21) suspected armed robbers, Five (5) suspected drug dealers, Twelve (12) suspected motor vehicle thieves, Four (04) suspected fraudsters, Five (05) suspected thieves and Forty-seven (47) suspected thugs.”

The police recovered various exhibits, including dangerous weapons, suspected stolen vehicles (cars, tricycles, and motorcycles), mobile phones, illicit drugs, and counterfeit currencies.

To further combat crime, the command has launched “Operation Kukan Kura,” a special security initiative designed to proactively address thuggery in Kano metropolis, banditry and kidnapping along state borders, as well as drug trafficking and other social vices.

“Significant breakthroughs have been made since the launch of the operation on 1st of July, 2025,” CP Bakori noted, emphasizing the command’s commitment to sustaining security efforts in the state.
