The Lagos State Police Command has inaugurated a Closed-Circuit Television Surveillance Centre to strengthen security operations and improve real-time crime detection across Lagos Island and surrounding areas.
The Command’s spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, noting that the facility was activated on January 14, 2026, under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh.
“In line with our commitment to technology-driven policing, the Lagos State Police Command has put in place a CCTV Surveillance Centre to enhance security within Lagos Island and its environs,” Adebisi said.
She explained that the centre, also designated as Control Room 5, enables continuous monitoring of the Third Mainland Bridge, adjoining waterways, and other strategic locations.
“The facility allows for real-time surveillance, which supports proactive crime prevention and the protection of lives and property,” she added.
According to the police, the centre was constructed and fully equipped by the Federal Government through the Ministry of Works, under the supervision of the Minister, Dave Umahi.
Adebisi said the control room operates 24 hours daily and is manned by trained officers to ensure swift, intelligence-led responses to security incidents.
“The centre runs round the clock with personnel trained to deliver rapid and effective security responses,” she said.
She also disclosed that two operational vehicles were handed over to the command on January 16 to improve mobility and field operations.
The police urged residents to support security efforts by promptly reporting suspicious activities.
“Public cooperation remains vital. Residents should report any suspicious movement through the Command’s emergency lines,” Adebisi said.
