The Plateau State House of Assembly has sworn in Daniel Nanlong, representing Mikang constituency, as a member of the 10th assembly.

Speaker Gabriel Dewan inaugurated Nanlong during a plenary session on Tuesday in Jos.

Nanlong, a former majority leader in the ninth assembly, expressed gratitude to the speaker and promised to utilize his experience for the betterment of the legislative arm.

He vowed to collaborate with his colleagues and support the executive arm in attracting investors to the state, according to Peoples Gazette.

In another development, the assembly extended the tenure of acting auditor-general Christy Davou by six months.

This extension was made at the request of Governor Caleb Mutfwang to allow time for the appointment of a substantive auditor-general.

A bill aimed at establishing the office of the attorney general in Plateau also passed its second reading during the plenary session.

Sponsored by Joseph Bukar, the bill seeks to create an organization that will coordinate the activities of the justice ministry.

Furthermore, the speaker announced that the National Assembly has directed the house to establish three new standing committees.

These committees will focus on food security and nutrition, traditional matters, and election matters.

The food security committee will be inaugurated during the next plenary, while the other two committees will be deliberated upon.

“I will use my experience for the betterment of the legislative arm. I will lend my support to the leadership of the assembly and the executive arm of government.

“I will also use my experience to work in collaboration with the executive arm to attract investors to the state,” he said.

“We are to create a Committee on Food Security and Nutrition, a Committee on Traditional Matters, and a Standing Committee on Election Matters.

“The committee on food security and nutrition is in immediate effect and will inaugurate the committee during the next plenary. However, we will take our time to assess and deliberate on the other two committees and see what we can do,” the speaker said.
