President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday paid a visit to victims of the recent massacre in Yelewata, a community in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, where over 59 people were reportedly killed in a brutal attack last Friday.

Touching down at the Tactical Air Command of the Nigerian Air Force Base in Makurdi at approximately 12:58 pm, the President made his first stop at the hospital to see some of the wounded survivors receiving treatment.

From there, Tinubu proceeded to the new Banquet Hall at the Benue State Government House, where he was scheduled to meet with critical stakeholders concerning the persistent violence plaguing rural parts of the state.

The President’s itinerary includes engagements with families of victims, injured persons, internally displaced individuals, and traditional as well as community leaders affected by the ongoing attacks.

This dialogue is part of a broader initiative aimed at crafting sustainable solutions to the wave of insecurity troubling Benue and other states in the North-Central region.

Present at the high-level meeting are expected to be Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia, fellow governors, particularly from the North-Central zone, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume.

Also on the list of expected attendees are service chiefs, prominent lawmakers, members of the ruling All Progressives Congress, and other key figures representing impacted communities.

To honour the presidential visit, the Benue State government declared a public holiday, underscoring the gravity of the recent events and the importance of the meeting.
