The new Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mojisola Meranda, made an official move into the Speaker’s office at the Lagos State House of Assembly Complex on Monday.
Videos and pictures shared on social media captured her supporters praising and praying for her as she assumed her new role, showcasing the momentous occasion.
Ahead of the scheduled plenary session on Monday, the Assembly Complex ramped up its security measures in anticipation of any potential issues.
The upcoming session comes amidst tensions following claims by the former Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, that he still holds the position of Speaker in the House.
Meranda took over from Obasa who was removed by the majority of House members on January 13, 2025, due to allegations of misconduct and financial misappropriation. Despite the allegations leveled against him, Obasa vehemently denied them on Saturday and called on the lawmakers to provide evidence to support their claims.
This plenary session will mark the third meeting chaired by Meranda following Obasa’s ousting, with the former Speaker notably absent from the previous two sittings.
