Umuahia, the capital of Abia State, stood still on Friday as residents complied with the sit-at-home directive issued by the Indigenous People of Biafra in remembrance of fallen Biafra heroes.
According to Vanguard, the city’s streets were largely deserted, with only a few tricycles and vehicles in motion.
Business activities were halted as shops remained closed, while markets and motor parks were shut down. Banks did not open for transactions, and both private and public schools kept their gates locked, leaving students and pupils at home.
Despite the general compliance, some youths were seen playing football on the empty streets, while small groups gathered at their premises discussing recent developments in the country.
Security operatives were notably absent from the streets, but no clashes or disturbances were reported between law enforcement and enforcers of the sit-at-home order.
