The Peoples Democratic Party has announced the postponement of its highly anticipated National Elective Convention, originally scheduled for August 2025.
The event will now be held in November and relocated from Kano to Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.
This development was confirmed by the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, during a press briefing on Thursday in Abuja. The announcement followed the conclusion of the party’s 101st National Executive Committee meeting.
Ologunagba explained that the adjustment in date and venue was a strategic decision taken by the party leadership to ensure broader participation and adequate preparations ahead of the convention.
“The NEC, after careful deliberation, resolved to shift the National Convention to November 2025. We also agreed to hold the event in Ibadan, Oyo State, in place of the initially planned Kano venue,” Ologunagba stated.
Although the PDP did not give detailed reasons for the changes, political analysts believe the move may be linked to the party’s efforts to consolidate its base in the South-West region ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The publicity secretary emphasized that the PDP remains committed to internal democracy and unity among members as it prepares to reposition itself for national leadership.
“Our party is committed to inclusiveness, fairness, and the democratic process. The decisions taken are in the best interest of the PDP and its teeming supporters across Nigeria,” he added.
