PDP slams Kwara gov over ‘security, governance failure’

The Peoples Democratic Party in Kwara State has issued a vote of no confidence against Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, citing “all-round failure across critical sectors of governance.”

The resolution emerged during the party’s inaugural 2026 meeting of the State Working Committee and was formalized in a communique signed by State Publicity Secretary, Olusegun Olusola Adewara.

The PDP criticized the ongoing closure of schools in Kwara South and Kwara North since December, labeling it counterproductive and dangerous to the future of children.

“Shutting schools in response to insecurity reflects leadership failure rather than a solution,” the party stated, urging the government to reopen schools immediately and enhance security around educational institutions.

The party emphasized that children’s education must not be compromised due to “the government’s inability to protect lives and property.”

Governor Abdulrazaq’s “frequent absence from the state” also drew sharp criticism, with the PDP accusing him of spending extended periods in the Federal Capital Territory while pressing issues of insecurity and governance worsen locally.

“The governor’s continued absence has created a leadership vacuum and rendered the government largely unresponsive to the plight of Kwarans,” the SWC asserted.

The PDP further condemned the violent attack on elderly women who had peacefully protested for the release of their kidnapped relatives.

Describing the incident as shameful, the SWC alleged that thugs, acting as government agents, assaulted the women in the presence of police officers who failed to intervene.

The party gave Governor Abdulrazaq a seven-day ultimatum to apprehend, publicly parade, and prosecute those responsible, warning that failure to act would make him accountable for their actions.

Highlighting the escalating insecurity, the SWC revealed that over 22 people were abducted in Kwara South between December 25 and early January.

“Among the victims are His Royal Highness, Oba Olanipekun, the Oniwo of Afin, and his son, a serving National Youth Service Corps member,” the PDP stated, adding that kidnappers have threatened to kill either the monarch or his son if ransom demands are unmet.

The party described these developments as evidence of worsening insecurity and a breakdown of governance, urging the state government to urgently restore security, safeguard citizens’ rights, and end the pervasive climate of fear across Kwara State.
