The Zamfara State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has leveled serious allegations against the All Progressives Congress, accusing them of colluding with military personnel and bandits to manipulate the Kaura Namoda South State Assembly bye-election held on Saturday.
State PDP Chairman Jamil Jibo made these claims while reacting to the election outcome, which the Independent National Electoral Commission declared inconclusive due to cancellations in two registration areas. The party strongly condemned what it described as “a broad daylight robbery of its mandate” by the APC.
Jibo alleged that heavily armed military personnel were deployed to polling units not to provide security but to intimidate voters and perpetrate violence. “The military personnel assaulted PDP agents and chased them from the polling booths,” he stated.
The PDP further claimed that no proper election took place in Sakajiki ward, alleging that “ballot papers were hijacked, and results were fabricated by the APC in connivance with the military personnel in the absence of the PDP agents.”
The ruling party also made startling allegations that certain bandits were used to threaten and intimidate voters in parts of the constituency, creating an atmosphere of fear that prevented free and fair voting.
Despite these allegations, the PDP leadership has called for calm among its members. Jibo urged party supporters to “remain calm and law-abiding,” assuring them that the leadership would explore all legal avenues to reclaim what they believe is their stolen mandate.
