The Peoples Democratic Party has raised concerns over an alleged scheme by Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, to tarnish the reputation of the former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Udom Emmanuel.
The party characterized the plot as a desperate and failed attempt to undermine the PDP.
In a statement released by its spokesman, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, the PDP claimed that it had uncovered a well-coordinated plot by Akpabio to manipulate certain media outlets into engaging in a smear campaign.
The alleged plan involves spreading falsehoods, misrepresentations, and unfounded accusations of corruption against Udom Emmanuel.
“The latest being the attempt to portray Udom Emmanuel as being indicted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission while bandying spurious and fictitious figures to mislead the unsuspecting public,” the statement read.
The PDP further emphasized that such efforts would not succeed, as Nigerians are already aware of Akpabio’s attempts to undermine the former governor. “Senator Akpabio should know that such an unholy enterprise cannot succeed as Nigerians have already seen through his machinations against the former governor, Udom Emmanuel,” the party asserted.
The PDP also highlighted Udom Emmanuel’s achievements during his tenure as governor. According to the party, the former governor left behind a remarkable legacy, including transparent and prudent management of resources, as well as significant contributions to sectors like aviation, manufacturing, education, healthcare, housing, and power. “Moreover, it is on record that Udom Emmanuel served meritoriously as Governor of Akwa Ibom State and left an impeccable record of transparent, prudent and service-driven management of resources with exceptional legacy of massive infrastructural, citizen empowerment and human capital development projects,” the statement said.
The PDP urged Senator Akpabio to abandon his campaign against Udom Emmanuel and focus on the issues facing him in the National Assembly.
