The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Malam Shehu Mohammed, has warned motorists to pay their fines only to designated banks and refrain from attempting to bribe patrol operatives.
This warning was issued in a statement by the FRSC spokesman, Olusegun Ogungbemide, on Tuesday in Abuja.
Mohammed cautioned motorists against offering financial benefits or other gratifications when apprehended for traffic violations.
He emphasized that the FRSC maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward bribery and corruption, stating that such actions contradict the Corps’ values, ethics, and standard operating procedures.
“As such, any motorist found attempting to bribe FRSC personnel will be arrested and prosecuted. This is in line with extant provisions in the Corps’ Establishment Act (2007), as the Corps does not, and will not tolerate any form of corruption whatsoever,” he said.
Mohammed reiterated that the FRSC upholds the highest level of transparency in its operations and expressed frustration with motorists who attempt to evade the law by bribing personnel instead of paying fines through proper channels.
He advised motorists to comply with the law by settling fines only at designated banks, as all fines from patrol operations are remitted into the Treasury Single Account rather than individual pockets.
In the same vein, the Corps Marshal warned FRSC personnel against soliciting bribes from motorists. He urged the public to report any operative found demanding bribes, as such behavior violates the standard operating procedures for patrol operations.
Mohammed disclosed that complaints could be submitted via email at info@frsc.gov.ng, the FRSC Mobile Application, or the Flag-It anti-corruption app.
“The public can also reach out through our social media handles: facebook.com/FRSCNigeria, x.com/FRSCNigeria, instagram.com/FRSCNigeria, youtube.com/FRSCNigeria. FRSC remains committed to upholding the law and maintaining the highest standards of integrity and professionalism. The public is admonished to comply with all traffic regulations on the movement of persons, animals, and goods on Nigerian roads,” he said.
The FRSC boss also commended citizens who have responsibly reported misconduct involving operatives without resorting to violence.
