Patient found on IV drip on Lagos-Badagry Expressway roadside clinic

A makeshift medical facility operating from a roadside shanty along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway has been uncovered by enforcement officials, with a patient found receiving intravenous treatment at the unhygienic location.

The discovery was made at Barracks Bus Stop during an enforcement operation involving the Lagos State Task Force, environmental sanitation officials, rapid response personnel and other security agencies.

According to reports, the officials were clearing illegal structures and activities along the expressway when they stumbled on the clandestine clinic.

A male patient identified as Aminu was reportedly found receiving treatment through an IV drip at the facility, which was operating in a roadside environment.

Video footage from the operation showed enforcement personnel evacuating the patient from the makeshift clinic as officials moved to pull down the structure.

An enforcement officer said the patient was immediately removed from the location before the shanty was demolished.

The discovery has raised concerns over the activities of unregistered medical facilities and the potential dangers posed to residents who seek treatment in unhygienic environments.

Authorities warned residents against patronising unlicensed medical centres, stressing that treatment in facilities that do not meet required health and safety standards could expose patients to serious risks.

The enforcement agencies also indicated that operations would continue along the Lagos-Badagry corridor to remove illegal structures and curb unauthorised activities along the major road.
