The Oyo State Government has officially announced the postponement of the much-anticipated Adire Carnival and Exhibition, earlier scheduled for Friday, June 20, 2025.

The announcement was made in a joint statement released in Ibadan on Wednesday by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, on behalf of the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Wasiu Olatunbosun.

According to the state government, the decision was driven by the desire to deliver an event that aligns with international standards and provides an enriching experience for attendees.

“We are committed to hosting a world-class event that reflects the rich cultural heritage of Oyo State. The postponement is necessary to ensure that the Adire Carnival and Exhibition are executed to the highest quality,” Olatunbosun stated.

He assured that a new date for the event will be communicated to the public in due course.

The commissioner reiterated Governor Seyi Makinde’s dedication to cultural and tourism development, adding that the administration remains focused on promoting indigenous industries and boosting economic growth through tourism.

“In line with the Omituntun 2.0 Roadmap for Sustainable Development, the government recognises the role of tourism as a catalyst for job creation, economic stimulation, and increased internally generated revenue,” he explained.

Olatunbosun highlighted the success of past events such as the World Twins Festival, Egungun Festival, Iyake International Festival, and Aso-Ofi Festival, noting their contributions to the local economy and the state’s global cultural reputation.

He emphasized the significance of the Aso-Ofi Festival, which led to a policy encouraging public servants to wear traditional attire, thereby reviving the indigenous textile industry.

“The Adire Carnival and Exhibition, organised in partnership with BIZRAIT and Adire Odua, is part of our broader effort to spotlight indigenous craftsmanship and cultural pride,” Olatunbosun said.

He thanked all stakeholders for their continued support and patience, assuring them that the upcoming event will be worth the wait.

“Our aim is to celebrate our cultural identity in a way that empowers local artisans, attracts global attention, and leaves a lasting impact,” he concluded.
