No fewer than 10,000 teachers across Nigeria have signed up for the forthcoming Professional Qualifying Examination organised by the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria, scheduled to hold from May 14 to May 16, 2026.
Registrar and Chief Executive of the council, Dr. Ronke Soyombo, disclosed this in an interview on Tuesday, noting that the figure reflects increasing trust in the council’s digital registration system.
She explained that the online portal, introduced in September 2025 with support from the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Alausa, was designed to streamline teacher registration, licensing, and certification nationwide.
Soyombo acknowledged that users initially encountered some difficulties when the platform was launched. She attributed the issues to heavy traffic, system upgrades, and the transition from manual to digital processes.
“The early challenges we experienced were largely due to high user traffic and increased demand following the nationwide rollout,” she said.
“There were also ongoing system upgrades to improve performance and security, alongside adjustment issues as users moved from manual to digital processes.”
Despite the initial setbacks, she maintained that the platform is now operating efficiently, adding that the number of successful registrations demonstrates its reliability.
“The TRCN digital portal is now running smoothly and continues to serve teachers across the country without interruption,” Soyombo stated.
“Over 10,000 teachers have successfully registered for the May 2026 Batch A examination, which clearly shows the system is functional and effective.”
She further stressed that the portal remains the only authorised channel for teacher registration and certification in Nigeria, warning against fraudulent practices.
“Registration is conducted exclusively through the official TRCN portal,” she said. “The council has never authorised any bank or third party to sell registration forms.”
Soyombo commended teachers for their patience during the transition period and assured that efforts are ongoing to further enhance the platform’s efficiency and user experience.
