Outrage as Benue students strip classmate in viral video

A harrowing video showing a group of female students stripping and harassing a fellow student has ignited widespread outrage after it appeared on social media.

The footage, shared on X on Monday by a user identified as #mobilisingniger, shows at least five girls in school uniforms physically attacking the victim.

While the incident is reported to have taken place in Benue State, authorities have not yet confirmed the name of the school involved.

In the video circulating online, the victim can be seen desperately trying to cover herself as her attackers pull her around and laugh.

A male student watches the assault without intervening, while another person records the degrading scene.

The disturbing clip has prompted swift condemnation from Nigerians, who have called on the Benue State Government, the Benue State Police Command, and the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons to take immediate action.

Commenting on the incident, #FemVitalHub wrote on X, “This is absolutely heartbreaking and unacceptable. No child should ever face such humiliating, dehumanising treatment from her peers. Sexual harassment and bullying like this in schools point to deeper failures in parenting, school supervision, and moral guidance.”

“This should be taken very seriously, and we should have juvenile just like every other civilised country, that way they can’t escape the justice system. They stand to be corrected, and that can only happen in a correctional facility,” added #atakapapi.

“All of them should go to prison for doing that to their fellow human,” #BiggCoin_ commented.

On Facebook, Wuese Daniel said, “It’s very unfortunate how shameless and irresponsible these lads have proven to be. How many of such and even more despicable acts have gone and are going on without notice in this society? It’s obvious their intention of recording was to post and humiliate her more, but it’s now concrete evidence against them.”

Emma Nuel added, “The school management should fish out the bad eggs and hand them over for appropriate legal action. I strongly condemned the degrading treatment and torture of the victim. Let justice be done in the case.”

This incident comes amid a series of high-profile bullying cases in Nigerian schools.

In March, the Edo State Government ordered the arrest and prosecution of students at Igbinedion Education Centre after a video emerged showing two male students beating another student on the ground.

In 2024, Lead British International School, Abuja, faced nationwide backlash when videos of a female student being repeatedly slapped by a classmate went viral.
