Osimhen too big for Turkish League, says Fenerbahce president

Fenerbahce president, Ali Koc, has weighed in on Victor Osimhen’s headline-grabbing move to Galatasaray, acknowledging the Nigerian striker’s immense talent while admitting the Super Eagles star is simply “too good” for Turkish football.

Currently on loan at Galatasaray, Osimhen has taken the Turkish Super Lig by storm, netting 33 goals in all competitions for the Istanbul giants.

Galatasaray are eager to make his stay permanent, but Koc believes the 26-year-old belongs on a much bigger stage.

“Osimhen is a special player and a player above Turkey,” Koc told TRT Spor.

“He is in a different category. He also comes once in 40 years.

There is talk about whether he will stay or not. Accounts, books, taxes, agreements… If it is done according to the rules, there will be no room for a spending limit!”

While Fenerbahce fans have criticized their president for missing out on Osimhen, Koc set the record straight, explaining that the striker was never offered to them and the transfer to Galatasaray came down to pure chance.

“For those who don’t know about Osimhen’s transfer, let me tell you; luck was on Galatasaray’s side,” he said.

“It was very good for them because Mauro Icardi was injured. It was a windfall. If it had been both, it could have been a problem.”

Despite his heroics in Turkey, Osimhen is expected to move on at the end of the season, with European heavyweights like Manchester United, Chelsea, and big-spending clubs in Saudi Arabia circling for his signature.
