The Imo State Government has shut down a hotel and a private mortuary allegedly serving as a base for kidnappers and a hub for illegal organ harvesting.
This action followed a joint visit by the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Chioma Egu; the Chief Pathologist of the Imo State Specialist Hospital, Dr. Ibeaja Okechukwu; and Imo State Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, to the facilities located in Ngor Okpala. During the inspection, officials reportedly uncovered several decomposed and dismembered corpses in disturbing conditions.
Spokesperson for the State Police Command, Henry Okoye, confirmed the development in a statement issued late Saturday, explaining that the raid was carried out after security operatives received credible intelligence.
According to him, the property owner, identified as Stanley Morocco Oparaugo, is currently on the run and has been declared wanted.
“In a bid to intensify the crackdown on kidnapping and violent crimes along the Owerri–Aba Expressway, the Commissioner of Police led a high-level team to Umuhu Autonomous Community in Ngor-Okpala on Saturday, December 6, 2025, acting on actionable information about the activities of one Stanley Morocco Oparaugo,” Okoye said.
He noted that accompanying the team were the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Chioma Egu, Chief Pathologist Dr. Ibeaja Okechukwu, members of the Ngor Okpala Vigilante Group headed by Mr. Henry Ikpe, and the Chairman of Ngor Okpala LGA, Hon. Mrs. Chika Ibekwe.
During the operation, authorities inspected the suspect’s hotel and mortuary, believed to be used by criminal elements. The gruesome state of bodies found in the mortuary sparked suspicion of organ trafficking activities.
On the orders of the state government, both premises were immediately sealed, while a search of the suspect’s home reportedly led to the recovery of vital evidence.
Forensic experts have secured and documented all findings as part of an ongoing investigation.
The Police Commissioner vowed that everyone connected to the crime would be identified and prosecuted.
The statement urged residents to assist with information that could lead to the arrest of Oparaugo by contacting the nearest police station.
