At least one person has died and others sustained injuries following two separate road accidents involving a motorcycle and a tricycle in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

According to the Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority, a fatal crash involving a TVS motorcycle with registration number LUY 306 UT occurred at Agbarigo, Mokola. The incident left one person dead and two others injured.

Confirming the development in a statement on Sunday, the Chairman of OYRTMA, Adekoya Adesagba, said that officers of the agency were deployed to the scene and helped rescue the victims.

“In line with our mandate, our officers swiftly responded to the emergency and ensured the injured were taken to the Oyo State Hospital, Ring Road, Ibadan, for medical attention,” Adesagba said. “The victims’ personal effects, including a bag containing a large sum of money, were safely recovered and handed over to the family.”

In a separate incident, a pedestrian, Oladayo Adisa, was seriously injured after being hit by a tricycle driver who was reportedly driving against traffic near a petrol station in Ibadan.

Adesagba, who condemned the growing disregard for traffic rules, said, “It is alarming how some motorists ignore basic road regulations. Mr. Adisa was struck while attempting to cross the road due to the carelessness of a tricycle rider who was driving one-way at high speed.”

The OYRTMA boss warned that the agency would continue to take firm action against reckless drivers, adding, “The government will not tolerate such endangerment of lives. We are committed to stricter enforcement to safeguard all road users.”

Eyewitnesses reported that the tricycle operator showed no concern for the injured pedestrian, allegedly claiming he lacked the financial means to assist.

Adisa, after regaining consciousness, expressed appreciation for the prompt response of OYRTMA officials and the petrol station manager. He said, “If OYRTMA apprehends any tricycle rider taking one-way, they should not release them until they are prosecuted in court.”

Adesagba concluded by calling on residents to obey traffic laws and support the government’s efforts to prevent further tragedies.

“Through collective responsibility, we can reduce accidents and make our roads safer for everyone,” he added.
