A midnight downpour in Jigawa State has led to the collapse of a building, leaving one person dead and seven others injured in Kabak village, Kirikasamma Local Government Area.
Confirming the incident on Sunday, the council’s Information Officer, Musa Muhammad, said the victims were trapped when the building gave way after the heavy rainfall.
“Sadly, one life was lost in the incident, while seven others sustained varying degrees of injuries,” Muhammad stated.
“Five of them are currently receiving treatment in the hospital, while two have already been discharged after medical attention.”
The Chairman of the council, Muhammad Maji, visited the scene of the tragedy to commiserate with the families affected.
He also announced financial support to help ease their burden.
“In line with our responsibility to the people, the council has released N500,000 to cater for the medical bills of the injured. We have also provided N100,000 as emergency relief to the bereaved family,” Maji said.
Residents of Kabak village described the incident as devastating. A community elder, who gave his name as Alhaji Isa, said: “This is a sad day for us. The rain was too heavy, and nobody expected such a disaster. We are grateful for the government’s quick intervention, but we urge more support for the victims.”
