The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the death of Arobo Precious, a final-year student of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, who allegedly took his own life in a bush near his residence.
Precious, an HND II student, was reportedly discovered hanging with a rope around his neck on June 18, 2025. Sources within the community said the incident might be linked to emotional trauma following a failed romantic relationship. A video posted by the deceased shortly before his death suggested he was battling distress.
Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Olayinka Alayande, said the case was reported at the B Division Police Station in Owo around 10 p.m. on the same day.
“Yes, I can confirm that a case of suicide was reported at about 2200hrs on the 18th of June, 2025. Following the report, the Divisional Police Officer led a team of detectives to the scene, where they found the lifeless body of a young man, aged around 27, with a rope around his neck, believed to have been used in committing suicide,” Alayande stated.
He added that the corpse was removed from the scene and has since been deposited at the Federal Medical Centre’s morgue in Owo for preservation and autopsy.
