The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria, Ondo State Chapter, has announced an immediate industrial action commencing Thursday, June 13, 2025, following the state government’s failure to honor previous agreements.
In a notice issued by the Ondo JUSUN Secretary, Alade Kehinde, and seen by our correspondent, the union cited the expiration of its 7-day ultimatum issued on June 4, 2025, and the government’s continued disregard for unresolved aspects of the May 20, 2015 Memorandum of Understanding as reasons for the strike.
The notice read, “All members are directed to stay off duty starting from tomorrow, June 13, 2025, until further notice”. The union emphasized strict compliance with strike guidelines while appreciating members’ cooperation.
The impending industrial action threatens to paralyze judicial activities across Ondo State courts, including high courts, magistrates’ courts, and other judicial departments. This development comes amid growing tensions between civil servants and state governments over unmet welfare agreements.
JUSUN’s terse notice concluded with the union’s rallying cry: “A PEOPLE UNITED CAN NEVER BE DEFEATED!!!” – signaling their resolve to continue the action until their demands are met.
As at press time, the Ondo State Government had not issued any official response to the strike notice. Court users are advised to make alternative arrangements as the judicial workforce down tools indefinitely.
