As the Ondo State governorship election unfolds, officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission have begun the deployment of voting materials to polling units across the state.
In Irele Local Government Area, specifically at Registration Area (Ward 8), materials are being transported to designated voting centres to ensure timely commencement of the electoral process.
This move aligns with INEC’s commitment to transparency and efficiency in managing the election. The Ondo governorship election is a crucial contest, featuring candidates from the major political parties, including Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress, Hon. Agboola Ajayi of the Peoples Democratic Party, Olorunfemi Festus of the Labour Party, and Bamidele Akingboye of the Social Democratic Party.
Out of the 2,053,061 registered voters in Ondo State, INEC confirmed that 1,793,914 have collected their Permanent Voter Cards, making them eligible to participate in today’s election. This marks a significant increase from the 1,478,460 eligible voters in the 2020 governorship election.
Irele LGA, known for its relatively peaceful electoral history, is one of the 18 LGAs in Ondo State where voting is taking place. The deployment of materials to Ward 8 is part of broader preparations by INEC to ensure the election is conducted seamlessly across all 3,933 polling units statewide.
INEC has assured voters that security personnel have been strategically deployed to maintain order throughout the process. The commission has also emphasized the need for citizens to exercise patience and cooperation to guarantee a free, fair, and credible election.
As the day progresses, all eyes remain on Ondo State as residents decide their next governor in what is expected to be a competitive and closely watched election.
