In a significant shake-up within the Ondo State House of Assembly, the Deputy Speaker, Abayomi Akinruntan, and the Majority Leader, Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi, have resigned from their leadership positions.

Both lawmakers, representing Ilaje Constituency 1 and Owo Constituency 1 respectively, are members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The resignations were officially announced during Tuesday’s plenary session, which was presided over by the Speaker of the House, Olamide Oladiji.

Hon. Akinruntan explained that his decision to step down was influenced by recent political arrangements aimed at balancing power dynamics within the state.

“I am stepping aside in the interest of equity and political harmony,” he said on the floor of the House.

Following the resignations, the House moved swiftly to fill the leadership vacuum. Ololade Gbegudu, who represents Okitipupa Constituency 2, has been named the new Deputy Speaker, while Olatunji Oshati of Ose Constituency has taken over as Majority Leader.

Speaker Oladiji commended the former leaders for their service and emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration within the House.

“This is a democratic institution, and leadership changes are part of the process. We appreciate the contributions of our colleagues who have stepped down and look forward to working closely with the new leaders,” he stated.
