In a tragic turn of events, one of the frontline governorship aspirants of the All Progressives Congress in Ondo State, Paul Akintelure, has been confirmed dead.

Akintelure, who was also a medical doctor, passed away after a brief illness in Lagos on Monday, March 25.

Prior to his untimely demise, Akintelure had expressed concerns over direct and indirect threats to his life, hoping the situation would improve. Unfortunately, the threats escalated as the APC governorship primary election, scheduled for April 25, drew closer.

Akintelure’s political journey included running as the deputy governorship candidate of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria with late Rotimi Akeredolu against Olusegun Mimiko, and contesting a senatorial election against the Peoples Democratic Party candidate. He hailed from Igbotako, Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The APC has set the primary election date for the Ondo State governorship race on April 25th, with the Expression of Interest form pegged at N10 million and the Nomination Form at N40 million.

The loss of Akintelure has cast a shadow over the political landscape in Ondo State as the community mourns the passing of a significant figure.
