The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rasidi Ladoja, on Tuesday inaugurated the Ibadan Community Guard as part of efforts to strengthen security across the ancient city.
The ceremony, held at the Olubadan Palace in Oke Aremo, Ibadan North Local Government Area, also featured the unveiling of the Ibadan Economic Investment and Business Development Desk as well as the Ibadan Food Security Initiative, popularly known as Gaari Ibadan.
The Community Guard is expected to work in collaboration with relevant security agencies to enhance effective and timely policing across the 11 Local Government Areas that make up Ibadanland. The operatives will be deployed across all council areas to improve surveillance and address emerging security concerns.
The initiative was introduced in response to prevailing security challenges in some parts of the city, with the traditional institution taking proactive measures to complement existing security structures.
Speaking through the ceremony, the move underscores the commitment of the Olubadan to ensuring safety, economic growth, and food sustainability within Ibadanland.
The event was attended by members of the Olubadan-In-Council, former Minister of Industry and Iyalaje Iyalode of Ibadanland, Onikepo Akande, businessman Dotun Sanusi, and the President General of the Central Council of Ibadanland, Ajeniyi Ajewole, among other dignitaries.
Further details on the operations of the Community Guard and other initiatives are expected to be made available later.
