The Director-General of the World Trade Organisation, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has clarified that a viral social media post alleging her criticism of President Bola Tinubu is false.
Through a statement posted on her verified X account, the former Nigerian Finance Minister described the post as “fake and misleading,” urging the public to ignore it.
She explained that the fabricated message, which has circulated widely across multiple platforms, reflects a recurring effort to exploit her name for political controversy.
“I have recently been made aware of yet another fake post circulating on social media purporting to quote me as criticising President Tinubu. This is completely false,” she said.
Okonjo-Iweala called on Nigerians to verify information before sharing it and warned against the misuse of public figures’ names for political purposes.
Reaffirming her professional focus, the WTO chief emphasized her dedication to her international duties and advancing trade-driven growth for developing economies, including Nigeria.
