The Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the State House of Assembly to initiate a thorough investigation into the alleged non-remittance of N82 billion in workers’ pension deductions under the Contributory Pension Scheme.

In a statement issued on Sunday and signed by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Architect Kayode Adebayo, the PDP accused Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration of failing to remit a single kobo into the CPS in his six years in office, describing the situation as a “monumental act of betrayal.”

The call follows an ultimatum recently issued by organised labour in the state, including the Nigeria Labour Congress, the Trade Union Congress, and the Joint Negotiating Council, demanding that the government suspend the planned implementation of the CPS scheduled for July 1, 2025.

The unions insisted that the government must address existing concerns or revert to the old pension scheme.

The PDP joined labour in questioning the foundation and management of the CPS, noting that former Governor Gbenga Daniel, who signed the law in 2008, left office without remitting 25 months’ worth of deductions.

His successor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, amended the law in 2013 and promised full implementation by 2025, but only remitted nine months of deductions in his eight-year tenure.

The PDP accused Governor Abiodun of continuing the pattern of neglect, stating that despite numerous appeals from labour, he has made no remittances since taking office.

“The silence of the Ogun State Government is not just irresponsible—it is an act of criminal negligence,” Adebayo stated. “Where is the N82 billion? Why has the state failed to account for it? Why proceed with the implementation of CPS when the necessary institutional and legal frameworks are still missing?”

The party expressed concern over what it described as “systemic erosion of the social contract,” warning that the administration’s actions risk pushing retirees into deeper hardship.

“This government has failed to establish a credible pension database or functioning pension board, leaving workers uncertain about their future. This is deliberate administrative recklessness,” the statement read.

The PDP warned that launching a new phase of the CPS without addressing the backlog and transparency concerns would amount to “a blatant fraudulent distraction” and “a gross disservice to Ogun workers.”

The statement concluded with an appeal to the Ogun State House of Assembly to intervene.

“We urge the Assembly to act in the interest of the people and ensure that the hard-earned contributions of Ogun workers are protected. The people’s pension must not be sacrificed on the altar of political expediency,” the party said.
