A telecommunication mast collapsed on a residential building in the Unity Estate area of Alagbole-Akute, Ogun State, following a heavy downpour on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, leaving the landlord with minor injuries.
According to The PUNCH, incident, which occurred at about 2:39 p.m., prompted an emergency response from the Ogun State Police Command after a distress call was placed by one Mr. Moses Olalere.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Omolola Odutola, explained that the mast, belonging to IHS Company and situated in the Ajuwon area, gave way due to intense weather conditions and landed on a nearby building.
“According to the eyewitness report from Mr. Olalere, the mast crashed onto the structure while the landlord was inside,” Odutola stated. “He fortunately escaped with just minor bruises and has since been treated by medical personnel. He is now in a stable condition.”
Photos shared by the police command showed visible damage to a section of the building.
In response to the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, directed Area Commanders to engage with telecommunication companies that have installed masts close to residential areas. The move, he said, is aimed at ensuring the structural safety of such installations.
“We must prioritise public safety,” CP Ogunlowo said. “Our officers have been mandated to sensitise the public and to assess the integrity of all telecom masts near homes.”
